Originally, the Jewish people were granted religious freedom and coexisted with the Greeks. However, some Jews resented the foreign control over their land and despised the Hellenistic influence over their culture; those resentful Jews started to reorganize under the name: “The Maccabees”. The reorganization of some Jews angered the Greeks but at first little had changed...

The Festival of SUKKOT - The Joyful Time

The festival of “Sukkot” also known as the “Feast of Tabernacles”
October 3, 2009 - October 9, 2009 (Jewish Year 5770)

The joyous festival of “Sukkot” commemorates the forty year journey of the Children of Israel through the desert coming to the Promised Land; during this time, they lived in temporary shelters, called "Sukkot".

This festival has an agricultural element as well. It celebrates the harvest season; the time of the final ingathering of produce before the oncoming winter; therefore, it is also being called the “Festival of Ingathering” (Hag HaAsif).

Historically, “Sukkot” was the biggest celebration in the Land of Israel and the happiest time of the year. The feast starts 5 days after “Yom Kippur” and lasts seven days.

It is a commandment in the Torah to celebrate this festival every year, throughout all generations, forever!

According to the prophet Zechariah, in the “Messianic Era” the feast of “Sukkot” will become a universal festival and all nations of the Earth will make pilgrimages annually to Jerusalem to celebrate the Holiday there...

YOM KIPPUR; May Your Name Be Inscribed and Sealed in The Book Of Life!

evening September 27, 2009 - evening September 28,
2009 (Jewish Year 5770)

Traditionally, “Yom Kippur” is considered to be the holiest day of the
year.

In Hebrew, “Yom Kippur” means, literally, Day of Atonement or day of
reconciliation.

The purpose of "Yom Kippur" is to bring about reconciliation
between one person to another and between each person to God…

The ten days
leading up to "Yom Kippur" are known as the Ten Days of Repentance. During this
period we are encouraged to seriously seek out each other’s forgiveness and
enter “Yom Kippur” with a lighter burden so when we stand before God and ask for
His forgiveness our request will be granted.

According to Jewish tradition,
it is also the day when God decides the fate of each living soul and seals it in
the “Book of Life”.

It is a commandment in the Torah to keep this holiday every
year, throughout all generations, forever!
Le’Shanah Tovah – YOM TERUAH!

Commonly known as "Rosh Hashanah" or the Jewish New Year.

September 19, 2009 Jewish Year 5770

According to Jewish tradition "Rosh Hashanah" marks the anniversary of the creation of mankind. The year number on the Jewish calendar represents the number of years since Adam, the first man; scholars have calculated the number of years by adding up the ages of the people in the Bible back to the time of Adam. However, this does not necessarily mean that Jews claim that the universe has existed for only 5770 years (as we understand years). Most scholars acknowledge that the first “six days" of creation could have not been measured in terms of earthly days; at least until the creation of our solar system on the “fourth day". One day of creation might be compared to billions of earth years or maybe just to a split earthly second; earthly time was meaningless at that point.

That is all tradition and is not supported by solid biblical references; it might be true or not. However, the commonly known name of this Holiday “Rosh Hashanah” presents some problems!

Don't Get Confused Between Religion and God!

Don't Get Confused Between Religion and
God!

Every religion is the creation of men; God did not create religion! - Yet, it is
absolutely not wrong for people to reorganize and assemble themselves when they
share similar traditions, faiths and values. However, a true believer should
also have a personal and private relationship with his God and that is
absolutely separate and different thing than a religion. Just beware of
religious deceivers who are teaching in vain false doctrine; of those that acts
as if they are the mediators between God and the common men, of those that
teaches to act in blind faith, of those that are preaching arrogance and hate!

TU BE'-AV; a Day of Love...

Tu be-Av is also referred to as The Fifteenth of
Av: "Tu" is the combination of the Hebrew letters tet and
vav, whose numerical value is together fifteen. It marks the beginning of
the grape harvest during the Second Temple period; Jews celebrated Tu B’Av by
letting their unmarried daughters dress in white and dance in the fields by the
moonlight. “What they were saying,” the Mishna tells us, was “young man,
consider who you choose” to be your wife. According to the Talmud, on this day
eligible maidens dressed themselves in borrowed white garments (so that the
poorer girls would not feel shamed) and went out to dance in the vineyards;
young men would attend the vineyards, and select their wives from among the
girls.

In Israel today, there a number of different contexts for
determining Jewish identity – that determined by the state for purposes of
immigration, and that determined by the Orthodox Rabbinate which controls the assignment
of Jewish status to those living in Israel.
